Participating in development process is the most direct way of contribution.
Please send me your patches, modules,
etc. Experienced developers can get direct write access to the source code.

Donate special Hardware and Systems
Developing a monitoring software without having access to systems this software should monitor is a little bit difficult. Hardware / Software donations for our Lab is a good way of getting us to implement specific sensoring modules. Also, offering access to special hardware and systems we can run tests against is a good thing.
In most cases we do not need leading edge hardware. Most often, the ways of getting system information out of a device does not change too dramatically. For instance, in order to test SNMP ethernet switch monitoring, an old 100base-T switch with a few ports your company is going to throw out is pretty as useful as the expensive 64-port Gigabit-Ethernet switch ...
